 Hostile vehicle mitigation

Often a visitor or guest’s first experience of your site is by arriving in a vehicle, however it is also often the first point of defence against anybody with nefarious intentions. Vehicles alone travailing at high speed have the potential to damage and injury, particularly in crowded areas. However when an improvised explosive device (IED) is introduced the severity of the impact is greatly increased. Hostile vehicle mitigation utilises a range of security and design measures that allows for control of vehicles approaching a site and ultimately denial of vehicles that attempt to bypass those controls often by high speed brute force attacks.

“The vehicle bomb is one of the most effective weapons in the terrorist’s arsenal because of the potentially large quantities of explosive that can be directed towards the target with reasonable precision. The explosive device is typically prepared in advance and concealed within a vehicle”
-CINP

Vehicle borne improvised explosive devices (VBIED) are a real and current threat in many parts of the world. Compared to a conventional IED the payload delivered can be far greater. Assessing what threat level from an VBIED your site poses is the first step in exploring mitigation from possible attacks. SGWs consultants can advise you on hostile vehicle mitigation methods that can be employed to protect a building, site or asset from potential VBIEDs. The design of a Vehicle Access Control Point should be based on the identified risked and in conjunction the operation needs of the site owner or operator.

SGW can provide a stand alone hostile vehicle mitigation design for your premises or as part of an incorporated design as part of an overall security and counter terrorism strategy. Hostile vehicle mitigation measures can be incredibly varied depending on a range of factors including space available and depth available for foundations.
