Built at the mouth of two major Scottish rivers, the Dee and the Don, and covering an area of 188.46 square kilo
metres (72.76 square miles), Aberdeen City is home to a population of over 200,000. The City Centre is currently protected by over 90 CCTV cameras plus a number of additional CCTV systems monitoring housing schemes and some 28 multi-storey blocks, all managed and operated by the Grampian Police control room.
SGW was invited to undertake a feasibility study and to make recommendations for the upgrade, modernisation and expansion of the entire public space surveillance system, to include:
- identifying appropriate independent and balanced options for the modernisation of public space CCTV in the City of Aberdeen whilst making best use of available technology and
- appointing a suitably knowledgeable and experienced organisation to carry out a scoping exercise that produces a costed business plan for all viable options.
SGW ensured that systems meet operational and legal requirements, that all technological solutions proposed are fit for purpose, easily upgraded and integrate with existing fibre optic infrastructure and that all work is within current Scottish Government guidelines for the efficient and effective public space CCTV in Scotland.
