SGW Security Consulting were appointed by Sheffield Hallam University to provide consultancy support and project management relating to a requirement to upgrade a CCTV control room as part of phased refurbishment and upgrade of a 250+ camera CCTV system at the university.

The old control room had evolved over a number of years and was not capable of meeting the current / future operational requirements of the university security department. The existing room was tight for space and not ergonomically designed to assist operator performance. Several disparate systems operated across CCTV, Security, Communication and Life Safety Systems disciplines which affected the efficiency of electronic systems within the control room environment.

Following approval of our feasibility report, SGW devised a strategy at tender stage for a mobile portable building to be enabled as a temporary control room. This was fitted out with core services to allow the security team to function during the works and free up the old control room for major building and modification works under the auspices of CDM Regulations. SGW Managed both the tender and implementation phases of the project which included the creation of ‘de‐centralised’ distributed matrix switch and networkable digital recording platforms for complete expandability as future operational requirements change.
